“A sound mind in a sound body” is the translation of famous Greek quotation by great philosopher and mathematician Thales (Miletus 624 – 546 BC) clearly defines the relationship between physical exercise, mental equilibrium and ability to enjoy life. A healthy person can think normally and act instantly in any given situation. A sound body means a healthy body, free from diseases. A sound mind means a mind capable of good, positive and free-thinking. Helping its cadets achieve a sound mind in a sound body which is one of the important goals of Uniform Service Centre. The centre organises numerous sports activities daily on its vast playground, specially designed to introduce young cadets to various sports. These activities play a crucial role in nurturing a positive and free-thinking mind among the cadets, aligning with its goal of fostering holistic development. Apart from these sports also fosters the qualities of teamwork, discipline, time management, mental development and emotional growth among the youth.

Marching ahead in its goal towards holistic development, The Sports Day was organised at the Uniform Service Centre for the first batch of cadets on 24th March 2024. The event started at 5:00 PM and concluded at 7:30 PM. The honourable guests Major Sanjay Mehrotra and Dr. Sayed MD (MH Hospital Alipur) graced the occasion as the chief guests, adding prestige to the event. A total of 205 cadets and 6 guides participated, making it a vibrant and lively event. The program began with a motivating speech by Major Sanjay Mehrotra, setting the tone for the day. Coach Mr.Tirath Raj also addressed the gathering, inspiring the cadets to give their best.

During the USC Sports Day, all four groups—Ganga, Prithvi, Agni, and Kaveri—participated with great enthusiasm and team spirit. Each group was guided by an experienced guide and led by a dedicated captain: Guide Mr. Balbinder Singh and Captain Master. Prashant Kumar for Ganga, Guide Mr.  Surendra Kumar and Captain Master. Shankar Lal for Prithvi, Guide Mr.  Gurmeet Singh and Captain Master. Suresh for Agni, last but not the least Guide Mr. Lal Babu and Captain Master. Mohan Ji for Kaveri. The event featured two exciting competitions volleyball and tug of war.

The Volleyball match: During the volleyball match all the teams gathered each team had nine participants, and the captains of the first two teams Prithvi and Ganga, started with a toss and the toss was won by Ganga. Ganga performed exceptionally well, winning the first two rounds of the tournament. Their outstanding performance throughout the event led them to emerge as the overall winners, securing the volleyball trophy.

Tug of War: Another event full of enthusiasm and healthy competition was the tug of war where every team was trying its best to emerge out victorious and win the trophy. Qualifying the semi-finals which was held on 21st of March 2024 between all the four groups, Agni and Prathavi reached the finals where Prathavi won both the rounds and lifted the trophy.

The winners were in high sprit lifting the trophy could there be any other better reward for the hard work put in by the teams. The certificates were distributed to all the participants by honourable guests. The winners were on cloud nine adoring the trophy, the whole atmosphere was filled with a lot of joy and congratulations poured in from every were for winners. For the runners up it was a great opportunity to learn. Then there was the vote of thanks by Major Sanjay Sir and his team. At last, all the memorable moments were captured in the group photo to create a memory for lifetime.

The very first sports day at USC was a successful event very well organised by the joint effort of all the team members of USC and enthusiastic participation of cadets, which brings out the qualities of teamwork and healthy competition, embracing failure and learning from failures and sprit of appreciation for teammates. Overall, the Sports Day was a memorable and enjoyable event, demonstrating the physical and mental prowess of the cadets as they continue their journey towards becoming future leaders in the uniformed services.
